Dear Sirs, I am very interested in this position, my experience in varied fields in my career make me an ideal candidate for you. I can best describe myself as a "Jack of all Trades" when it comes to Information Technology. My current position I am the IT Manger of a 7 location retail chain. I administer Microsoft 2003 Servers, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, SCO Unix system, thin clients, desktop and laptop PC's, and Cisco routers. All of the stores are connected through a VPN using T1 and DSL connections I also develop the company web site and intranet using ASP, .NET, PHP, Microsoft SQL, MySQL and javascript. I have created a web content management systems for web sites that I have developed. I create and layout all of the print advertising for the company, including graphics, design, submission for publication, billboards, magazines, newspaper and direct mail. I have utilized a large format color printer to create product show posters for conventions such as the PCBC at Moscone Center in San Francisco. I am constantly analyzing business processes to find ways to reduce cost, I have been able to save the company 40% on wireless communications while increasing the number if lines and adding GPS tracking for our drivers. I have increased the number of stores connected to the point of sale system from 3 to 7 and have reduced the monthly connectivity cost by 20%. The company was sending trucks to have vinyl signs applied with the company name and logo, I put in place our own vinyl cutting system and have recouped the cost of the system in 2 months and now we can letter our trucks in one tenth the time and at a savings of 60%. I have been involved in the creation of new technology in distance learning, directing a set of developers, graphic designers and video production teams. This technology is patent pending. One large project that I managed from conception to completion was a rollout and upgrade of 125 new computer systems and management software. The company I was working for was implementing a new Enterprise Resource Planning system with a cost over 1.5 million dollars. I was in charge of deploying the desktop computers that would need to be in place for the new system to work. I met with managers and supervisors to coordinate new security policies and concerns. Next I developed a project chart with milestones and man hours to schedule the rollout of the new systems. After several procurement challenges my team of three technicians were able to complete the plan on time and on budget. For years I have had my own consulting company. I have developed custom software for a trucking company that was in use for more than 10 years. At another client I was able to debug and fix a software program that I had never seen before, and working with the company was able to improve and adapt the software to accept new data formats. I feel that my experience and my ability to quickly adapt and learn new systems would be a great asset to the company. I am looking for new employment because my current position there is no room for advancement, also, I am looking to relocate to the Los Angeles area to be closer to family. Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope to have the opportunity to discuss the opening with you in person |
